Vintage Art Deco St. Anthony of Padua with Jesus Apostle Saint Spoon Catholic Italy
Vintage Art Deco St. Anthony of Padua with Jesus Apostle Saint Spoon Catholic Italy
This is a 1930s-1940s vintage Art Deco spoon with a finial of St. Anthony of Padua on a pedestal holding Jesus in his right arm. He is easily identified by his classic iconography: wearing a Franciscan friar's habit with a tonsure haircut, and tenderly carrying the infant Jesus in his arms. Since it is made of all silver metal with no brass or other metal coming through it is likely made of either a very, very heavy silver plate or continental 800 silver with a worn marking from Italy. There is no visible maker mark or silver purity mark. There is however a worn mark on the pedestal holding St. Anthony of Padua which is not legible. Likely the area of Italy where the spoon was made. These saint and apostle spoons were popular Italian souvenir spoons in Italy in the early century. This one measures 4 1/4" tall north to south by 1/4" across the top east to west by almost 3/4" across the bowl of the spoon. Overall condition is excellent. No damage or repair. No deep scratches. It also has delicate bead accents around the border and faux-pierced details around the center stone in order to mimicking the fine metal work of the Edwardian era. The center holds a round rose cut black jet glass paste stone indicative of its age and also made of original Czech art glass. The pin itself is hand crafted with the rod being deeply set into the head; if you hold it to the light you can see that the rod goes very deep into the glass. The rod has a little sway but does not come out? Possibly intended by the maker so it could be used on thick overcoat without any chance of breaking the rod off the amethyst glass. Or it has come a little loose over the years. When the rod is pulled, it is still very strongly attached. You can see the rod was originally set into the glass with jeweler's bench cement which was made primarily from natural flake shellac. This cement was prevalent among jewelers during the Edwardian era as it would strongly hold the item and waterproof it at the same time and it is still used today. It is all original and has not been altered or modified. The glass head is in excellent overall condition. No gauges, cracks, chips or breaks. The metal rod is also excellent but has some age wear. This is a gorgeous example of early Czech art glass for your antique jewelry and stickpin, hat pin, jabot collection.

Antique Art Deco Silver Green Paste Pin Filigree Millgrain Trombone Clasp Needs 2 stones
Antique Art Deco Silver Green Paste Pin Filigree Millgrain Trombone Clasp Needs 2 stones
Needs 2 stones....This is an absolutely gorgeous Roaring 20s from an estate pin from many years ago with its old original push pull trombone clasp, all of its original sparkly green glass paste stones, most of its original clear white stones from years ago, thin fancy filigree open work and teeny tiny millgrain cut edges. Very pretty. A few of the clear white stones were replaced over the years, are very old and look fine. I only see 2 missing stones. The very fancy design along with prong settings and tiny stones makes the missing stones not eye noticeable or obvious when the pin is worn. All of the green stones have open backs. I could not find a mark on the silver but it looks, feels and polishes like 800 Eurpean grade of silver. Size is 1 1/2" long east to west by 9/16" tall north to south. Overall condition is very good used. No dents or dings. Push pull clasp works wells. No tears or deep scratches. The Art Deco paste is still sparkly.
