the 1941 Trifari “Alfred Spaney” floral spray and orchid-themed pins are highly sought after by collectors and considered a rare find. These pieces are valued for their early “Crown Trifari” signature, high-quality pavé crystal work, and the prestige of being designed by Alfred Spaney in the early 1940s.

Key Reasons for Collectibility:
  • Designer Provenance: Designed by Alfred Spaney, often signed “Crown Trifari” and sometimes accompanied by patent numbers from 1941.
  • “Book Piece” Status: The 1941 Spaney flower bouquet brooch is documented in authoritative costume jewelry books (e.g., Costume Jewelry 202 by Julia C. Carroll), making it highly desirable.
  • Design Quality: These pins often feature elaborate floral designs with rhodium or gold plating, pavé crystals, and sometimes cabochon stones.
  • Rarity: Early 1940s Trifari pieces are generally rare, with some variations of this pin considered hard to find.
Market Value:
  • These pins can sell for hundreds of dollars, with prices varying based on condition and specific design, often ranging from roughly $200 to over $700 for exceptional examples.
  • The large floral spray pins with red ruby-colored lozenges or clear rhinestone pave are particularly popular in the vintage market.
The pins are described as having wonderful sparkle, great presence, and are often sought after to be added to collections.
