This is a vintage 1990s Sajen Sterling Silver Large Azurite Amethyst Pendant Pin that is hand crafted and very well made. It is marked Sajen, Sterling. The center hold a gorgeous and very large natural mined azureite cabochon. Additionally, there are 2 amethyst teardrop cab stones at the ends. One of the amethysts has age wear and some inclusions that you can see in the enlarged photos. This is not eye obvious when the pendant is worn dangling on a necklace chain. Other than this, it is in excellent condition. No dents or dings or tears or deep scratches. No repair or alteration of any kind. Size is just about 2″ long by 1 3/16″ wide across the center. Just add a chain and you will have a beautiful colorful gemstone necklace by well known jewelry artisans for your collection. OR, use on any lapel and it looks lovely!

In 1987, newly wed Marianna and Richard Jacobs lived in a thatched roof bamboo house in the rice paddies of Bali, Indonesia. As a graduate student at Yale School of Art, Richard Jacobs won a Luce Scholarship to paint and teach in Bali, Indonesia. Marianna spent the year studying dance and working in a silver factory. She created jewelry and learned the ancient secrets of the Balinese master silversmiths.

Bali Cultural Impact:

An aspect of Balinese culture that influenced the Jacobs was the daily tradition of making exquisite “offerings”. Balinese use the offerings to appease the gods and to create balance. These “offerings” can be as simple as a few flower petals with rice and incense in a palm leaf. It is common to see a line of women walk to temple with “offerings” stacked up to 6ft high on top of their heads. The offerings are fruit and floral. The Balinese word for “Offerings” is “Sajen” which is the trademark of our jewelry.

India:

The Jacobs also work in one of the oldest and most respected jewelry manufacturing cities in the world in Jaipur, India . The Jacobs are very interested in the similarities and differences between the Hindu traditions of the Indian and Balinese cultures. In Jaipur, our  jewelry business has helped support 10 beautiful and loving adopted orphan girls. “Being part of their lives has been the most rewarding part of our our time in India”.

Artistry And Culture:

The Jacobs consider their endeavor a collaboration between themselves as designers and the incredible jewelers in Bali and Jaipur, as well as Mother Earth. The earth is the source of the beautiful healing stones they use in their jewelry. They hand draw all  of their own designs. Marianna’s interest in studying indigenous cultures as well as their spiritual/healing beliefs informs her as a designer. She has found her knowledge of stones, combined with ancient healing traditions from Bali, India and Peru, to be effective and rewarding in helping others. Marianna also practices the healing techniques of the Andean Shamans from Peru.

Richard Jacobs is also an abstract painter who exhibits with the Jack Geary gallery in NYC.

Large Antique Victorian 10k Gold Spinning Mourning Cameo Pendant Pin Memorial - This is is a large stunning antique Victorian 10K gold carved shell cameo keepsake pendant/pin and it's a SPINNER!! It is all hand made and the cameo is signed with the etched signature of the artist on the back. Looks like it reads "Selz". Size is 2 1/4" from top to bottom by 1 3/4" wide. Depth is just over 3/8" from back to the top of the cameo. The cameo itself is 1 3/16" tall by 1" wide across. Weight is 14.4 grams. The back edge of the cameo has a small surface scratch; Not a crack. The pinback was upgraded to a locking clasp many, many years ago and is excellent; it works well, is strong and secure. The goldsmith did a very good job. The cameo is bezel set with 2 hand applied pins in the frame, thereby, allowing it to spin around freely. There is no back cover but the inside of the back is very deep, almost 3/8" and would be a great conversion for any hair or keepsake or momento if jeweler could add a flat back. There is a lot of gold in this pendant. Or it can just be worn the way it is without the addition of a cover. The cameo LEFT FACING and exquisitely carved with beautiful intricate details.....very fancy carved hair draping down the neck, fancy hairpieces, deep wide open intaglio eyes, sharp crisp pointed nose and mouth, earring. The 10K gold on the front is 3/16" deep in most places, has very fine quality Victorian work with deep engraving amid fancy scrolls. The back has a couple of very minor pinpoint size dings...maybe 1/10 of 1mm....very very tiny and minor. The large size, weight, depth, spinning and carving make this is an absolutely gorgeous and rare Victorian for your antique gold collection or to use as a pendant pin or add a back cover for a spectacular rare memorial item!!

Vintage 1960s Sterling Silver Tall Heavy Sitting Poodle 1 3/16″ Charm Pendant Solid Fancy Heavy
This is a beautiful vintage 1960s large tall fancy solid sterling silver sitting up poodle charm or pendant. Marked Sterling. Size is 1 3/16" tall by almost 1/2" wide across the center of the body. It is very well made of 1 chunk of solid sterling silver. It also very fancy and highly detailed. Beautiful condition. No damage. No tears, dents, or deep scratches to the sterling. Great item for anyone who enjoys poodles and vintage 1960s poodle jewelry. Just add a chain and you will have a gorgeous dangle necklace or add to your favorite charm bracelet. ABOUT 1950s POODLE FASHION:
The 1950s poodle skirt was a ‘50s favorite, often in white, standing at the hem of the skirt, complete with a curly embroidered or sequin leash. Even more decorations came in the form of the large applique cats, squirrels, guitars, or catchy phrases like “See You Later Alligator.” The poodle skirt became a lasting icon of the 1950s especially for teenagers but women wore them too with more mature appliques such as the Eiffel tower, telephone, and martinis.
ORIGIN:
You have heard of Poodle skirts and their association with 1950’s fashion, but you may not know how they originated or the profound influence they have had on women’s fashions since that time. The phenomenon started in 1947 when 25-year-old Juli Charlot needed a skirt to wear to a holiday party in Los Angeles. Because she couldn’t sew, she cut a big circle of felt with a hole in the middle to fit her waist and appliquéd Christmas trees to it. Felt was the only material available that was wide enough to cut a complete circle skirt without any seams. The skirt was a huge hit. A week after the party she sold the skirt to raise money to go to design school and learn how to sew. Eventually as demand for her skirts grew, she opened her own factory. Although she continued to get orders, money was tight. Then a New York designer visited her factory, found her in tears, and invested enough money for the business to take off.
TYPES:
Although many appliqué designs were used on the skirts, it was the elegant, well groomed Poodle  with a swirly leash that proved to be the most popular. In fact circular skirts with other designs were often called Poodle skirts. The full skirt was a welcome change from the straight or pleated below the knee skirts that were worn by young girls and women of the day. Poodle skirts were worn with flirty petticoats and a wide cinch belt. The skirt looked cute on young girls, but pretty silly on their mothers and grandmothers. In other words Poodle skirts were one of the first “too young for you” fashions. From that time on, seeing a youth market with money to spend, many designers worked exclusively on clothing geared to the young.
