Vintage Sterling Silver Garnet Marcasite Flower Basket Pin
This is a thick, chunky, well-made, late mid century, 1970s-80s basket of flowers pin made of sterling silver, marcasites, and garnets. It is marked 925 for sterling silver quality and is also jeweler tested and Guaranteed to be solid sterling silver. It also has a maker mark on the back upper corner. This pin is beautifully made with fancy open work between the stems and leaves, individually jeweled raised garnet flowers where the stones are both bezel and prong set and have open backs, and fancy cut work like millgrain on all of the edges around each stem and leaf and throughout the basket. It is finished off with a bow at the the bottom. The garnets are 3mm – 3.5mm each and have lovely deep red color with internal glowing fire color. Very sparkly.
One of the tiniest marcasites at the bottom directly on the bow is missing. NOT eye visible at all unless looking for it and does not detract. All of the garnets are free of any damage. No chips, cracks, abrasions or wear. All good stones. Great condition garnets. No chips or breaks to the facets. All marcasites are good. The sterling is in equally excellent condition. No dents, dings, tears etc… Minimal age wear.
Weight & Measurement:
Size is 2″ tall north to south from tip of top garnet to bottom of bow. Measurement east to west from tip of garnet to tip of garnet at widest point is 1 7/8″ across.Weight is 15.7 grams.
Condition:
Overall condition is excellent. Being labor intensive to make it is quite detailed showy as well as strong and substantial; a beautiful vintage marcasite garnets flower basket pin that is able to be used regularly on your lapel. Very showy but not gaudy.
