Description
This is a lovely pair of 1950s Hadley Sterling Silver mid century minimalist circle cufflinks. Any marks you may see in the images are from reflection as these are extremely shiny. They were never monogrammed or inscribed. Each link is marked Hadley with the old full word block letter Sterling mark. Size of each circle top measures 11/16″ across in diameter. These were an old store display and still retain their original mirror finish. Overall excellent condition. No damage or repair. Only ever used for display. The swivels are strong and secure. They work easily. Lovely addition for any mid century modern men’s accessories collection.
Sterling silver Hadley cufflinks were primarily made from the 1920s through the 1950s, following the expansion of the The Hadley Company into men’s accessories.
- 1905: The foundational year often referenced in Hadley branding (“Hadley Since 1905”), though the formal company was established later.
- 1912: Arthur Hadley founded The Hadley Company in Providence, Rhode Island, initially specializing in watch attachments and watch bracelets.
- 1920s–1930s: The company expanded production into men’s jewelry lines, creating sterling silver pieces featuring classic Art Deco and geometric motifs, often accented with black onyx or crystals.
- 1940s–1950s: Production of men’s accessories (including cufflinks, tie clips, and matching sets) ramped up significantly, shifting into mid-century modern, atomic, and textured modernist designs.
- 1951–1959: The Elgin National Watch Company purchased Hadley in late 1951. The brand continued producing men’s jewelry into the 1950s before phasing out operations near the end of that decade.
