Description
Lovely pair of vintage late Art Deco hand crafted sterling silver earrings with rock crystal dangles having hand etched pagodas. 1940s-1950s Japanese import for the US market made of 950 high grade 95% pure silver, higher than sterling silver quality. The pagodas are very detailed and beautifully etched; visible from both sides. Depth oif each dangle is 1/4″ front to back and they have a very early mid century rounded geometric thick rounded triangular shape. Overall condition of both earrings is excellent. The screw backs work easily and hold in place. The glass dangles are very showy and noticeable. All original from an estate many decades ago and kept in beautiful, original condition. No dents or dings. No damage or repair. Never altered or modified. No cracks, chips, flake or abrasions. An exquisite pair of very well made hand crafted earrings for your vintage jewelry collection.
AI Confirmation:
Rock Crystal (Quartz): The majority of the mid-century export and tourist-market pieces featuring reverse-carved (intaglio) pagodas use genuine natural rock crystal quartz. The cool-to-the-touch, durable stone was hand-carved on the back and polished on the front to create a magnifying, 3D effect.
Based on the close-up image of the screwback hardware, your earrings are stamped strictly with the word “SILVER”, which points to them being 950 silver
-
- The “SILVER” Stamp: In mid-century Japan (specifically during the post-war and 1950s export boom), the standalone word “SILVER” or “SILVER 950” was the standard hallmark used by Japanese silversmiths to denote 950 fine silver (95% pure silver alloyed with 5% copper). [1, 2]
- 925 Silver Distinction: If the earrings were standard 925 sterling silver, they would typically be stamped explicitly with the word “STERLING” or “.925”. [1, 2]
