Description
From an estate this is a antique gold over sterling silver Pyx for the last rite sacrament or Ciborium for a small mass. It is used to hold the Eucharist/Host/Communion by the priest for Catholic Services. It is in the form of a pocket watch whereby you press the top and it automatically open so the pries can get the host. From the 1920s to the 1930s this one is a beautiful example. It was never monogrammed or inscribed and hasn’t been touched or polished out in many, many decades. Size is 2 3/4″ north to south by 1 7/8″ east to west. Depth/thickness is 7/8″. The mechanism works freely and closes securely. The inside is like new as you see in the photo. Heavy gold over sterling and no wear at all. The outside has very minor age wear. Excellent overall condition. No dents or dings. No cracks or tears. No seam splits. Never repaired. All original, one owner estate item. A lovely example of an early pyx for anyone who collects antique religious collectibles.
