Description
Antique Art Nouveau to Early Art Deco 14K Gold Bohemian Garnet Ring 5.1CTS
This is a most unusual goldsmith handmade Art Deco ring with 3 long layers of natural Bohemian Garnets. The shank is marked and jeweler tested as solid 14K yellow gold. The undermount is also solid 14K gold. The setting is gold over sterling silver which is the way antique garnets are usually set as natural garnets are heavy and silver is more durable to hold them. Silver is 3 times heavier than gold. The garnets have beautiful deep Port Wine red color and are very, very sparkly. All of the stones are well matched and excellent. No cracks or chips or flakes or breaks or abrasions. Nice fine quality garnets. Total carat gemstone weight is approximately 5.1 carats. The setting was made so that the top is removable. The top 2 layers of garnets are in a 1 piece setting that is attached to the lower setting with hooks. Given this, there will always be a little movement but it is safe, strong, and secure. By setting it in this manner the goldsmith was able to assure that none of the stones would be damage while the ring was being made. It also allows for the center to be changed to hold a large solitaire at anytime. Your jeweler would have to set it up for you if you wanted another interchangeable bezel setting. Ring size is 4.5. **Please note that the band is slightly off round from age and I have a size 5.5 finger and am able to wear this ring easily if I turn it sideways when placing it on the finger. Size of ring top is long at 7/8″ north to south. Size across the center east to west is 9/16″. Condition is excellent, very gently used. The large stone in the center is bezel set with fancy, intricate cut work on the gold edges of the bezel. This is a gorgeous and very unusual antique Bohemian Garnet ring for your antique jewelry collection!!
