1936 Art Deco Deakin and Francis British Sterling Silver Birmingham England Ladies Flat Compact

This is a vintage British sterling silver Art Deco ladies compact with its original mirror, powder puff and net sifter. It is marked with lion passant to indicate solid sterling silver, the anchor to show Birmingham origin and the letter M consistent with the origin year date of 1936. Additionally, is also has the D&F hallmark maker mark stamp for Deakin and Francis silversmiths. The top has a strong geometric Art Deco pattern consisting of tight parallel waves amid a sunburst pattern that draws the eye to the top semicircle which contains parallel half circles. The interesting part of the wave and burst pattern combines is that when you move it in lighting the waves look like they are rippling across. Size is 3″ across in diameter and depth is 3/16. Weight with mirror is 63.9gr. The back has multiple shallow dings all over. The front top is excellent condition. No dents or dings.Never altered or repaired. No tears or deep scratches. Top and inside is fine. Hinge works well. Dual latches on the edge in order to open and close it are still intact and it closes securely. It came from the estate of the original owner many decades ago and has been safely stored away all these years. It is in original condition and has not been freshly polished out. This is a lovely original Art Deco compact for your vintage and antique vanity display and ladies’ accessories collection.
