Description
sThis is a stunning antique early Art Deco long bar pin made of a silver tone metal with very dark blue sapphire paste stones. From a collection of estate jewelry from many years ago and it needs one small dark stone; any dark rhinestone will do. Size is just about 3″ long by 5/8″ wide in the center. Many of these very early pins either have a lot of wear or never survived. The metalwork on this one is still good. Just glue in a dark similar stone and you will have a lovely pin for your antique jewelry collection or display. This is a lovely example of 1920s fancy paste jewelry.
- Design & Style: These pins embrace Art Deco minimalism or elaborate filigree work, frequently using milgrain detailing (tiny beaded edges) to hold the stones.
- Materials: Common materials included platinum-topped gold, white gold, sterling silver, or silver-toned metal (often rhodium plated).
- Paste Stones: High-quality glass, known as “paste,” was used to simulate diamonds, sapphires, or emeralds. These stones were often faceted and hand-set.
-
- Fasteners: 1920s pieces often feature a long pin stem that extends slightly beyond the edge of the bar, ending with a safety clasp or a simple C-clasp.
- Shapes: While typically long and narrow, some designs featured intricate fan, sun-ray, or floral motifs.
